Harvest Update

Harvest Update August 27, 2017

Veraison, the onset of ripening, began a couple weeks ago for us in our Winter’s Hill Vineyard. The grapes are slowly changing from green unripe berries to the beautiful red pinot that we know and love. The berries will begin to plump up as they develop sugar and flavors. As of now we are still predicting to begin picking the last week of September. Plans might change in the next couple weeks though, because beginning Sunday, August 27th the winds shifted, and are coming from the NE, and with that come the hot temperatures. We are looking at a 10 day forecast of 90-101 degree days. These hot temperatures will speed up the ripening phase of the grapes. We will not fully know what the 2017 vintage is until the grapes are picked.
