For generations, Oregonians have been thoughtful and intentional about how we address some of our state’s most pressing needs while creating the best possible future.

And for 50 years, 1000 Friends of Oregon has been working alongside those Oregonians to enhance our quality of life by building livable urban and rural communities, protecting family farms and forests, and conserving natural areas. They operate independently of partisan politics to serve the public interest as a watchdog group for the government agencies tasked with managing land use issues.

Looking forward to their next 50 years of land use advocacy, 1000 Friends of Oregon invites us all to reaffirm our commitment to protecting this special place we call home and leave it better for generations to come.

The Oregon wine industry would quite simply not exist without SB 100, the landmark legislation that protected Oregon farm and forest land. The rolling hills that are so well suited to vineyards are equally well suited to residential development, and the southern facing slopes would have been divided into 2-5 acres home sites long before anyone thought of planting vineyards.

After the passage of SB 100 in 1964, 1000 Friends of Oregon has been tireless in defending the values and landscapes that contribute to the long-term economic vitality and beauty of Oregon.
