With Harvest 2024 in full swing, we’re fully immersed in tending to our 25 planted acres of vineyard, spread across elevations of 550-750 feet. It’s a lot of ground to cover—let’s just say we’re definitely getting our steps in! 😂
A Bit of Vineyard History
The story of our vineyard began in 1990 with the planting of our first vines. We still have a small section of that original planting producing Pinot Noir. Most of our vineyard was planted between 1999 and 2001, with the latest addition coming in 2023.
When asked, “How many vineyard blocks are there?” I often reply, “Well, it’s complicated.” But Emily, Peter, and I do have our favorites.
Our Block Selections
My Choice: Block 4
I like Block 4 which contains our oldest vines from the original planting in 1990. These tough old vines deliver fruit with outstanding balance and an earthiness that we don’t find anywhere else in the vineyard.
Emily’s Choice: Block 7
Emily likes wines with good structure, especially in white wines. The Pinot blanc that grows in Block 7 is her favorite, both on its own, or as part of the Pearly Everlasting blend.
Peter’s Choice: Block 10
Peter likes Block 10 because the rootstock we selected, 5C, is the perfect match to the soil structure in that section. The vines are naturally balanced, neither too vigorous or too weak. It also helps that the clone, Pommard, reminds him of his visits to Burgundy.
