That was a Birthday Sale!
Thank you for the incredible response to my Birthday Sale last week! I feel so fortunate to work with my family and colleagues here in the Dundee Hills, but none of it would be possible without the support of our friends, supporters, and fans all across the country.
Altogether, you ordered more than 100 cases of wine, including the last bottles of Pinot noir blanc, and lots(!) of Rosé of Pinot noir. We are still busy packing and shipping your orders. Thanks for your patience as we get everything safely delivered!
Starting Summer With Our Single Block Series
This June, we’ll be taking a deep dive into our Single Block Series – a collection of Pinot noir made from different sections of our vineyard. Each week I’ll be sharing more about the diversity, ageability, and consistency of two different Single Block wines:
June 1-8: 2012 114 Clone & 2024 Center Cut
June 9 -15: 2009 Block 9 Pommard & 2024 Block 9 Pommard
June 23-30: 2015 Block 10 Destemmed & 2015 Block 10 Whole Cluster
June 16-22: 2021 Block 8 & 2024 Block 8
These wines will also be featured in comparative tastings on our weekly tasting flight, so you can experience them yourself. Learn how seasons, winemaking techniques, and vineyard conditions influence the final product.
Why do we make single block wines?
Many of the conditions that contribute to delicious Pinot noir are beyond our control, like the weather or the layout of our vineyard. As winemakers, our job is to work within those constraints and try to craft the best wine possible.
One way we do that is by harvesting each block of our vineyard separately and crafting many small batches of Pinot noir, making subtle but important choices to maximize the quality of each barrel. This is the origin of our Single Block Series of Pinot noir.
After fermentation and initial aging are complete, we taste the wines and identify those that stand out as being particularly delicious and unique. Each year we select 3-5 blocks and bottle them separately from the rest.
As growing conditions vary from year to year, so do our selections of which blocks to bottle separately. These small bottlings allow us to showcase the diversity of wines we can create from our vineyard, and over time, we can taste and learn about how our wines are affected by the natural variation of the growing seasons.
Taste with us in June!
Again, I invite you to join us for a tasting, or come every week, we love to see you and talk wine.
Cheers!
Russell
P.S. Our Founder, Emily, has a birthday coming up in July, so watch this space…
