Last year about this time of the summer, I received a call from an old friend. Dylan Roche and I studied together in Burgundy in 2003-4, learning winemaking, viticulture, and accounting, all presented in French.
To make a long story short, (here is a link to a longer version) Dylan explained that he and his wife, Penelope, operated a winery in British Columbia and that their 2024 crop had been devastated by a brutal cold snap. We agreed that we could supply them with fruit from our vineyard, and during the 2024 harvest, (thanks to a very busy WhatsApp channel) we managed to coordinate picking, crushing, customs regulations and shipping logistics to deliver Pinot noir, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, and Rosé, 505 miles North to Roche Wines in Penticton BC.
