Pinot noir is often described as the “Goldilocks” grape, requiring conditions that are “just right” to produce delicious wine. Over the past two weeks, Oregon has experienced just such weather conditions for producing excellent Pinot noir!
We have enjoyed mild summer weather with highs in the 70s and 80s. And our night temperatures have been consistently cool in the 50s. That is just what we need as the grapes begin to turn purple and begin to ripen. And the good news?
The forecast for the next two weeks is more of the same:
My Optimistic Outlook
After 30+ years of winemaking, we know Oregon’s weather is unpredictable. Truly anything could happen between now and the last fruit being harvested. But I’m an optimist, and this could be the start of an incredible vintage.

Great weather for Pinot noir is also great weather for winetasting. Recently we have seen quite a few visitors from the Southeast who are grateful to spend some time away from the heat at home.
