The Pre-Thanksgiving Vertical Tasting
The fall is passing quickly, and we are finalizing plans for our upcoming Pre-Thanksgiving weekend. We’ll be featuring a vertical tasting during which we will compare several of our wines from different vintages.
While comparing two different wines can be difficult, a vertical tasting eliminates some of the most important variables, making it easier to taste how the wines change from year to year.
Why do we love vertical tastings?
First, it’s fun to taste older wines and see how they have developed. Wines never stop evolving as they age in barrels or bottles, but the way they change can be unpredictable. The only way to find out for sure is to open the bottle and taste it.
For a winemaker, it helps us make better wines. A vertical tasting helps us learn how different parts of our vineyard react to different weather conditions so we can fine tune our winemaking techniques.
For a wine-lover, you can learn more about which wines you prefer.You might find that you prefer older wines, or you may prefer the freshness of a younger wine. If you have some of these wines in your own collection, this is a chance to see how they are aging without having to break into your stash!
