It’s another cold rainy day in the Dundee Hills, which makes this winemaker very happy. Yep, very happy! Wondering why? While hot summer days are loved (and I’m looking forward to many of them,) the value of this slow steady rainfall is immeasurable! Oregon’s forests catch the rain in their leaves and needles, letting it drip slowly into the soil to replenish the groundwater. This prevents the rain from flowing quickly into the rivers and streams. The Henry Creek Watershed borders our vineyard to the west. Its trees are currently distributing the rain which will become the domestic water to the small city of Lafayette this summer. The permanent grass between our vines also help absorb the rain, but nothing is quite as good as those eighty foot tall Douglas Firs. 🌲🌲🌲 Stay tuned!Watersheds are important in many different ways, and you will be hearing more about them in the future. But stay tuned, and don’t put your raincoat away…yet! |
